and are open to young people aged 8 - 21 with all backgrounds and levels of experience. We do not audition for these play programmes but invite all those with enthusiasm, a sense of curiousity and a willingness to make the commitment!
Students are given valuable theatre training workhsops and receive specific skill training with professional theatre artists in vocal and physical expression, working with different types of text, basic acting training. Through the skill training as well as Drama games and other structured activities, they experience all types of skills and self-development including self-confidence, cooperative group work skills,
risk-taking, self-awareness and communication. All of the workshop coaches and instructors who work with our Youth Production students are skilled and experienced theatre artists and educators who work primarily with young people and many have worked with First Light Theatre on a number of past productions. By performance time, each student will have received approximately 100 - 120 hours of rehearsal and workshop training.
Past productions through these training programmes include: The Wizard of Oz, Romeo & Juliet, Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Charlotte's Web, Our Town, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Jungle Book, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Dracula, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Edgar Allan Poe: Tales of Mystery & Horror. All of these plays were performed for public and student audiences at The River Run Centre and at Our Lady of Lourdes High School Theatre.
